Long story short…..

Dachshund Airlines

The unseasonal conditions and my school work load has kept me from blogging but I refuse to lose. It has been awesome to feel sun on my Vitamin D deprived skin, follow baseball, and swing the golf club again. I hope to do all of these things repetitively in the near future, including lose a few pounds. Here some highlights from my exceptionally exciting life:

Willard Beach has been our spot

Portland has been pedestrian friendlier recently

Middle Street

Shan found probably the coolest skatepark ever. I am attempting to preserve my integrity and not be a "spot-blower-upper"

I hope you hear from me soon and often.

Rookie of the Year

I hear the call of the Mastodon

Triple jawed minotaurs have a special place in my heart

One of my all time favorite bands, Mastodon,¬† are touring their new album “The Hunter” this winter/spring and to my joy THEY ARE COMING TO PORTLAND AGAIN!! I think it’s because they miss us.

My homie Ross and drummer Brann Dailor post show last year

Needless to say I am mucho excited. It should be a curb-stomping good time. I know this sort of head crushing, organ splitting prog massacre music isn’t for everyone. Either way, I want you to watch this video. Mute it if you have to. It says a lot to me about why Mastodon is different and better than the thousands of other metal acts out there. Originality and creativity.

See you at the show. Don’t forget your helmet earplugs.

Its like a pizza ate a cloud, and then I ate that cloud.

The. Best. Pizza. Ever.

This is a Sicilian Slab. Its not your grandma’s greasy variety store pizza, its not a big floppy New York piece, its not like anything you’ve had before. The crust: moist, salty, chewy, light, cooked perfectly, as thick as an inch at times. Gluten Heaven. Tons of sauce pools on top (on the sweeter side) with the perfect consistency of tomato. The cheese is sparse but it is JUST the right amount. A few dabs of olive oil on top and boom. I advise eating with a knife and fork.

Micucci's Grocery India St. Portland, Maine

Here’s where you can get one of your own. Micucci’s is an Italian food wholesaler with a little grocery store that has been on India St. since the 50’s. It’s an amazing store with fresh bread, pasta, a delicatessen, wine, and the best pizza ever made. There are no signs to direct you to this life changing experience on the outside or the inside. Walk up to the wine section and in the back you will find a rack with fresh pieces. Only available at lunch time, there are a limited amount for each day, so hurry up.

Hip Maine blog where I found the Micucci’s pic. Hope they don’t mind.

Tim Thomas snubs Obama, bums me out

The Pride of Flint, MI

As I’m sure most people know by now, Bruins’ goalie Tim Thomas chose to not show up the White House to celebrate the Stanley Cup with his teammates. Shortly after he released something that resembled a statement regarding why he blew off the president:

“I believe the Federal government has grown out of control, threatening the Rights, Liberties, and Property of the People. This is being done at the Executive, Legislative, and Judicial level. This is indirect opposition to the Constitution and the Founding Fathers vision for the Federal government. Because I believe this, today I exercised my right as a Free Citizen, and did not visit the White House. This was not about politics or party, as in my opinion both parties are responsible for the situation we are in as a country. This was about a choice I had to make as an INDIVIDUAL”

Whatever, bro. I don’t know what was worse, the action or the foggy back-peddling reasoning in his terribly timed statement. This was not about politics? That’s a joke, right? You sold out your team and your country because you wanted to send a message. In the end that message was completely convoluted by your disrespect.

Anyone who knows me well knows my love affair with TT is a deep one. But this sucks because I think this whole thing is the beginning of the end of his career in Boston. I’m not sure why just yet, but what I do know is that successful organizations (i.e. Patriots) don’t keep people around that sell out their team for personal reasons. Just sayin.

One more thing Timmy, do you remember that you are from Flint, MI? THE poster child for how a completely free market system can destroy the lives of lower and middle class people? It’s just not a good look. Even Tomas Kaberle showed up and he plays for our rival team in Montreal, had to fly in just for the event, and is from the Czech Republic.

p.s. TT was one of only two Americans that are on the Boston Bruins. Way to go….
